Overview
The Identity Card (IC) is a compulsory document for Singapore Citizens (SCs) and Permanent Residents (PRs). You can use the e-Service to register for one. In addition, you must complete a mandatory biometrics enrolment at school or ICA Services Centre.
Eligibility
You are legally required to register for your first IC if you are an SC or PR upon reaching 15 years old, and before your 16th birthday.
Documents Required
For SCs, you must provide digital images of the following documents:
- Your recent passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last 3 months (please see Photo Guidelines).
- Baptism or religious certificate containing the applicant's NRIC number or date of birth (if you want to include a religious name)
- Deed poll for a change of name, with consent from both parents (or legal guardian(s), if applicable)
- If only one parent/legal guardian consents, he/she must submit an Order of Court empowering him/her to unilaterally change the minor's particulars in the online application, where possible. Alternatively, submit a copy of the Order of Court and the completed declaration form(PDF, 134KB) via the enquiry form after submitting the application.
- Your recent passport-sized, digital, colour photograph taken within the last 3 months (please see Photo Guidelines).
- The page(s) of your current passport containing your personal particulars (bearing your new name if applicable).
PRs with a change of name must first update the name on their current passport and provide a copy of the passport bearing their new name as a supporting document to change the name on their IC.
You will need to provide original documents and official translations (for documents in languages other than English).
ICA accepts:
- Translations provided by the embassy of the country/place that issued the document
- Translations produced by a notary public in Singapore or the country/place that issued the document
- Privately created translations attested by the embassy of the country/place that issued the document, or notarised by a notary public in Singapore or the country/place that issued the document
ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities. Insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. You may be required to provide additional documents to support your application.
