Pre-Departure Checks
When driving or riding across the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints, you must comply with specific vehicle rule and immigration clearance procedures.
Plan your trip before heading out, check the traffic conditions at the checkpoints on the Land Transport Authority (LTA) website.
Requirements
Vehicle Entry Fees and Rules
The fees and charges you pay will depend on the type of vehicle, checkpoint, and the day and time you enter Singapore.
Singapore Citizens (SCs), Permanent Residents (PRs), and holders of passes issued by ICA or the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) cannot keep or use a foreign-registered vehicle in Singapore. An exception is made for certain MOM work pass holders who do not reside in Singapore.
Visit the Land Transport Authority website for more information.
Three-Quarter Tank Rule
If you drive or ride a Singapore-registered motor vehicle out of Singapore via the land checkpoints, your fuel tank must be at least three-quarters full.
This rule applies to all Singapore-registered motor vehicles leaving Singapore by land, including those running on:
- Diesel (With effect from 1 April 2019, the three-quarter tank rule was expanded to cover Singapore-registered diesel-powered vehicles.)
- Petrol
- Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)
For hybrid vehicles running on petrol and CNG, both the petrol and CNG fuel tanks must be at least three-quarters full.
Penalties
It is an offence to leave Singapore without complying with this rule. You may be fined or prosecuted in court. Officers may also direct you to perform a U-turn at the land checkpoints.
Visit the Singapore Customs website for more information on the three-quarter tank rule.
