Overview
You are issued a Re-Entry Permit (REP) when you become a Permanent Resident (PR). You need a valid REP whenever you travel out of Singapore, as it allows you to retain your PR status while you are abroad.
If you leave Singapore or remain overseas without a valid REP, you will lose your PR status. You will be assessed for entry into Singapore as a foreign visitor, subject to prevailing entry requirements.
Under the Immigration Act 1959, from 1 December 2025, you will lose your Singapore PR status if:
| You leave Singapore without a valid REP | Your REP becomes invalid while outside Singapore |
|---|---|
| (i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the date of departure | (i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the expiry of REP |

If you change a new passport of the same nationality, you must promptly update your new passport details in your REP using the transfer of REP function.
ICA may only accord you clearance as a PR if you have a valid REP with your updated passport details at the point of entry. If your REP is not in order, please inform the immigration officer of your PR status.
