Automated lmmigration Clearance
As part of ICA’s New Clearance Concept (NCC), automated lanes have replaced the manual immigration counters at all major checkpoints.
The automated lanes at the passenger halls use the Multi-Modal Biometrics System (MMBS) to provide secure immigration clearance by capturing facial, iris and/or fingerprints of arriving and departing travellers aged 6 and above.
If you are travelling with children below 6 years old, please use the Special Assistance Lanes (SAL) for immigration clearance.
Eligibility
All travellers, including first-time foreign visitors, are eligible to use the automated lanes at the Passenger Halls, without the need for prior enrolment before arrival.
Procedure
Before Arrival
All travellers (except Singapore residents travelling via the land checkpoints) must submit their SG Arrival Card (SGAC) within 3 days before arriving in Singapore.
At the Checkpoint
Digital signboards above the automated lanes indicate which lanes are designated for residents and foreign visitors. Please proceed to the appropriate lane based on your clearance method:
- Air and Sea Checkpoints (Token-less Clearance): Arriving and departing Singapore residents can clear immigration using only their facial and iris biometrics, without the need to scan their passports. Foreign visitors can also enjoy the convenience of token-less clearance when departing Singapore.
- Land Checkpoints (QR Code Clearance): All travellers (except first-time foreign visitors) can present a QR code generated via the MyICA Mobile app. For more information, visit page on QR code clearance.
Using the Automated Lane
- Scan your document: Scan your passport or QR code at the first gantry. (Note: If using token-less clearance, proceed directly to biometric scanning).
- Enter the lane: Once the first flapper opens, step into the lane.
- Verify your biometrics: Look between blue arrows for facial and/or iris scanning. If prompted, place your right thumb on the fingerprint scanner.
- Exit the lane: Once verified, the second flapper will open. Proceed to exit.
For a step-by-step walkthrough, watch the video or download the guides on how to use the Automated lanes with iris and facial capturing(PDF, 271KB) and Positioning of Thumb on Fingerprint Scanner(PDF, 569KB) on the fingerprint scanner if prompted for verification. - SAL
SALs are wider automated lanes that allow wheelchair users and family groups of up to 4 people (for instance, parents with children under 6 years old) to clear immigration together. They are located at the passenger halls of all major ICA checkpoints.
Important Reminders for Biometric Clearance
To capture your biometrics accurately:
- Remove obstructions: Do not wear sunglasses, caps, or other headgear that obstruct your face or eyes.
- Remove face masks: Remove your face mask during immigration clearance.
- No cosmetic lenses: Do not wear coloured or patterned contact lenses.
You must still bring your passport, as you may need it for immigration clearance at your destination country or if an ICA officer requests it for verification.
