Overview
The next of kin can report the overseas death of a Singapore Citizen, Permanent Resident (PR) or Long-Term Pass holder (including those on a Student’s Pass, Dependant’s Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass, or Work Pass) to ICA online once they have registered it with the relevant authority in the country/place where the person died.
Documents Required
You will need the following documents:
- Your identification document (NRIC or passport)
- Death certificate issued by the foreign authority (or certified true copy of the death certificate)
- Deceased’s Singapore identification documents (NRIC, Singapore passport or Long-TermPass card)
- A letter of authorisation and identification document from the deceased’s next of kin, if you are reporting as a representative.
If you are bringing the deceased’s remains back to Singapore, you will need to apply for the following National Environment Agency (NEA) permits:
- Coffin import or export permit
- Burial or cremation permit

If the death certificate is not in English, you will also need to provide an English translation of the death certificate made by a notary public or the relevant authorities of the country/place that issued the death certificate.
ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities. Insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. You may be required to provide additional documents to support your application.
Procedure
Obtain the foreign death certificate
The next of kin must register the death and obtain a death certificate from the relevant authority in the country/place where the person died.
Report the death to ICA
Report the death and submit the required documents online.
Fees
There is no fee for reporting a death that occurred overseas.
Processing Time
ICA generally processes the report is within 3 working days upon receipt and verification of all required documents stated above. Some cases may take longer.
ICA may also ask you to provide additional information or supporting documents, where necessary.
Confirmation of Report
You will receive an acknowledgement email once the processing is completed.
