A valid Re-Entry Permit (REP) is necessary whenever a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) wishes to travel out of Singapore. It enables a PR to retain his/her PR status while away from Singapore.
A PR who remains outside Singapore without a valid REP will lose his/her PR status.
Under the Immigration Act 1959, from 1 December 2025, a Singapore PR without a valid REP will lose his/her PR status, if:
He/She leaves Singapore without a valid REP | His/Her REP becomes invalid while outside Singapore |
(i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the date of departure | (i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the expiry of REP |
(ii) Applied for an REP within 180 days from the date of departure and receive a rejection outcome, even if he/she subsequently returns to and is in Singapore at the point of REP rejection. | (ii) Applied for an REP within 180 days from the expiry of REP and receive a rejection outcome, even if he/she subsequently returns to and is in Singapore at the point of REP rejection. |
