A valid Re-Entry Permit (REP) is necessary whenever a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) wishes to travel out of Singapore. It enables a PR to retain his/her PR status while away from Singapore.

A PR who remains outside Singapore without a valid REP will lose his/her PR status.

Under the Immigration Act 1959, from 1 December 2025, a Singapore PR without a valid REP will lose his/her PR status, if:

He/She leaves Singapore without a valid REPHis/Her REP becomes invalid while outside Singapore
(i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the date of departure(i) Did not apply for an REP within 180 days from the expiry of REP
(ii) Applied for an REP within 180 days from the date of departure and receive a rejection outcome, even if he/she subsequently returns to and is in Singapore at the point of REP rejection.(ii) Applied for an REP within 180 days from the expiry of REP and receive a rejection outcome, even if he/she subsequently returns to and is in Singapore at the point of REP rejection.
