You can request a formal letter for confirmation of Singapore citizenship status.


Eligibility

Any person who requires a confirmation of his/her Singapore citizenship status.


Documents Required

You will need to provide original documents and official translations (for documents in languages other than English), as well as copies of the documents for ICA to retain.

ICA accepts:

  • Translations provided by the embassy of the country that issued the document
  • Translations produced by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document
  • Privately created translations attested by the embassy of the country that issued the document, or notarised by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document.

ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities. Insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. You may be required to provide additional documents to support your application.


You will need the following documents:

  • Applicant’s Foreign Passport / Birth Certificate / Singapore Citizenship Certificate / Singapore Identity Card; 
  • If Requestor is an appointed proxy, a letter of authorisation and the Requestor’s Singapore Identity Card will be required.
    (For Children below 16, Requestors can either be a Parent of the child or a Proxy appointed by the Parents. Children aged 16 and above can represent themselves as Requestors)

Procedure

You can request a formal letter for Confirmation of Singapore Citizenship status in the following modes:

In Person

  • Singapore Overseas Missions, or
  • Walk in to:

    Registry of Citizens
    Citizen Services Centre
    ICA Building
    10 Kallang Road, Level 6 (next to Lavender MRT station)
    Singapore 208718

    Operating hours are 8.00 am to 4.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8.00 am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays.

    Longer-than-average waiting times are to be expected on the following peak times:

    • Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays
    • The day before or after a public holiday

Fees

A S$20 fee can be made using either:

  • NETS or NETS FlashPay,
  • Visa or MasterCard credit / debit card,
  • Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay, or
  • DBS PayLah! / OCBC Pay Anyone / UOB Mighty.

Processing Time

For requests submitted via:

  • Registry of Citizens at ICA Building, you will be able to collect your letter of confirmation on the same day if you have provided all the required documents.
  • Singapore Overseas Missions, the Mission will contact you once the letter is ready for collection.
