A death extract is a certified true copy of the death certificate. It replaces a lost or damaged death certificate.

Note: Records of death which occurred overseas will not be available.

You will need to provide original documents and official translations (for documents in languages other than English), as well as copies of the documents for ICA to retain.

ICA accepts:

  • Translations provided by the embassy of the country that issued the document
  • Translations produced by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document
  • Privately created translations attested by the embassy of the country that issued the document, or notarised by a notary public in Singapore or the country that issued the document.
  • ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities. Insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. You may be required to provide additional documents to support your application.

    The following information relating to the deceased person is required:

    • Name
    • Gender
    • Date of death
    • Singapore Death Registration number OR if the deceased died within the last five years, Deceased's Singapore NRIC /  Birth Certificate number.

    If you are unable to provide the above information, you are required to submit an application to search for the record.

    You will need to specify the approximate period during which you believe the deceased had passed away.

    Procedure

    You can apply for a death extract online using e-Service.

    Fees

    A S$40 fee is payable for an extract.

    If you need to apply for a search of the death record, the following fees are payable:

    • S$40 for a one-month search period
    • S$40 for every additional month or part thereof.

    The search fee is non-refundable.

    Payment can be made using either:

    • Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card,
    • American Express (AMEX) credit card,
    • Internet direct debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB, Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank internet banking accounts in Singapore).
    Processing Time

    The general processing time for a death extract application is 4 working days. Death extract(s) will be dispatched by post to the applicant. The application processing time excludes local postal delivery time, which generally takes 2-3 days.

    For a death record search, we will contact you once the search results are available.

    Collection

    The death extract will be sent to you via registered post. Please ensure that someone is at the mailing address to receive it. ICA will not be responsible for any damage caused during the mailing process.
