Statement on Full Reopening of Land Borders
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has worked with our Malaysian counterparts to have adequate resources on the ground to manage traffic and ensure vehicles maintain lane discipline on the Causeway and the Second Link.
2. ICA has also been working with Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Customs on the operational details of re-opening of the borders to minimise inconvenience to travellers.
3. To ensure operational readiness and efficiency, ICA and LTA have been maintaining, enhancing and testing our systems. Contingency plans have been put in place to cope with unforeseen traffic circumstances.
4. The number of automated lanes at the bus halls have been increased to beef up clearance capacity at Woodlands Checkpoint. ICA has also configured bus and car counters across Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints to automate the immigration clearance of single drivers.
5. ICA officers and all checkpoint agencies have been undergoing drills and exercises to familiarise themselves with the workflow and processes. We have also planned our manpower in anticipation of the re-opening tonight and subsequent anticipated long weekend peaks. We will monitor traffic conditions in real-time across the different conveyance modes, and adjust our resources accordingly.
6. For a smooth and seamless travel experience, we would like to remind travellers to prepare all necessary documents, such as valid travel documents, submitting SG Arrival Card and having a valid VEP before arriving at the checkpoints. For departing Singapore-registered vehicles, please observe the ‘three-quarter tank’ rule.
7. ICA would like to seek the public’s understanding and cooperation to avoid non-essential travel, especially during the peak hours. Depending on the traveller volume, delays are to be expected.
