Joint Press Statement by ICA and LTA - Upcoming Construction Work on the Singapore Side of the Causeway

It has been observed that there is an increasing number of motorcyclists violating lane discipline, queue jumping and obstructing traffic at the Causeway. After careful study, ICA and LTA will be constructing a road divider on the Singapore side of the Causeway to segregate motorcycles and motorcars to alleviate this problem.

The road divider will start about 50 meters from the shared International Boundary, and will lead all the way to Singapore's immigration checkpoint at Woodlands. Works to construct this divider will start in mid September 2005 and is expected to complete by mid October 2005.

With this new improvement measure, traffic flow along the Causeway is expected to be smoother. In the meantime, ICA and LTA would like to seek the understanding and cooperation of the public during the construction phase. We apologize for any inconvenience that may arise and will make every effort possible to minimize the impact on the traffic flow on the Singapore side of the Causeway.
