One Check, Multiple Detections Made at Woodlands Checkpoint
On 22 September 2017 at about 9.55pm, an officer from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) directed a departing Singapore-registered van, driven by a 27-year-old male Singaporean, for further checks at Woodlands checkpoint. He was accompanied by another male and female Singaporeans, both aged 23.
2. During the course of checks, a small packet of crystalline substance suspected to be controlled drugs and a drug-taking utensil were recovered from within the van. The van was also found to be a stolen vehicle.
3. Officers also found that the 27-year-old and 23-year-old men had committed other offences including theft from vehicle. The 27-year-old is also wanted for failure to attend Court and a breach of supervision conditions. The three Singaporeans were placed under arrest and handed over to the Singapore Police Force and Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
4. Our borders are our first line of defence in safeguarding Singapore's security. The security checks are critical to our nation’s security. ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands. The same methods of concealment used by contraband smugglers may be used by terrorists to smuggle arms and explosives to carry out attacks in Singapore.
