50 Year-Old Female Busted For Smuggling Subutex into Singapore

As part of vigorous and deterrent enforcement efforts, a 50-year-old female Malay was caught at the Woodlands Checkpoint on 23 August 2006 for attempting to smuggle Subutex into Singapore. At total of six-and-a-half Subutex tablets and another 96 tablets suspected to be controlled drugs were seized from the suspect.

2 On 23 August 2006 at about 2005 hours, ICA officers stopped and conducted a check on the 50-year-old suspect at the Woodlands Checkpoint Arrival Bus Green Channel. ICA officers noticed that she was behaving suspiciously and proceeded to conduct a body search. A total of six-and-a-half 8mg Subutex tablets and 96 tablets suspected to be controlled drugs were seized from the front pocket of her jeans. She was immediately arrested and referred to CNB for further investigations.

3 The 50-year-old suspect is unemployed and traced for trafficking, possession and consumption of a controlled drug. Her urine tested positive for benzodiazepines. She will be investigated for the offence of importation of a controlled drug. If convicted, she will face a minimum sentence of 5-years imprisonment.

4 In the continued fight against Subutex, CNB together with ICA and other enforcement agencies at the entry and exit points, are stepping up enforcement efforts to ensure that illicit drugs do not gain a foothold in Singapore.
