Of “Drugged” Food and Talisman

On 15 Jan 2007, at about 0920 hrs, a male Malaysian motorcyclist was arrested by Checkpoint officers at Tuas Checkpoint. Two slabs of Erimin-5 tablets were found in his wallet (hidden behind a talisman) while another 3 slabs were unravelled from within a packet of food. A total of 5 X 10-tablet slabs of Erimin-5 were seized.

2 As the blue Malaysia-registered motorcycle arrived at Tuas Checkpoint, the motorcyclist was directed for a routine check. In the course of the check, two slabs of tablets labelled as Erimin-5 were found in his wallet, carefully placed behind a cloth talisman. This discovery led the officers to conduct further checks on his motorcycle and belongings, from which another three slabs of Erimin-5 tablets were found within his packet of food. Upon questioning, the 26-yr old rider admitted ownership of the exhibits. He was immediately placed under arrest and together with the exhibits, referred to CNB for further investigations.

4 In view of the current global situation, enforcement agencies at all entry and exit points are working closely together to step up security inspections of all persons, goods and vehicles entering or leaving Singapore.
