Close to 2.1 Kg of Cannabis Detected At Woodlands Checkpoint

On 21 Mar 2007, at about 0540 hrs, a Malaysia-registered motorcycle arriving in Woodlands Checkpoint was diverted by the checkpoint officer for further checks.

2 In the course of the checks, about 2.1 kg of cannabis were found hidden in the backpack the rider of the motorcycle was carrying. The suspect was immediately placed under arrest and referred to CNB for further investigations.

3 The suspected trafficker is a 32-year-old male Malaysian Indian who works as a florist. His urine tested positive for cannabis. He has been charged for the offence of importation of a controlled drug. If convicted, he will face the death penalty.

4 In view of the current global situation, enforcement agencies at all entry and exit points are working closely together to step up security inspections of all persons, goods and vehicles entering or leaving Singapore. As a result, would be drug traffickers can also expect to face a heightened gauntlet of security checks and measures at our entry and exit points.
