The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) was shocked by your article ''''越南女特地飞来祝寿 机场遭扣留'' dated 17 October 2009.
Singapore welcomes all visitors as long as they meet our prevailing immigration requirements which include, amongst other things, holding a passport valid for at least six months, entry visa (if applicable), confirmed return/onward ticket, sufficient funds for the period of stay in Singapore and entry facilities. The granting of visit passes to visitors will be determined by the ICA officers at the Singapore checkpoints. Foreigners may be refused entry into the country if they are not able to meet the necessary immigration requirements.
With regards to Mr Chua's allegations, the ICA would like to set the record straight by providing our account of the incident. According to the article, Mr Chua and his Vietnamese girlfriend had arrived in Singapore on 13 October 2009 at about 5pm. He also stated that where he cleared immigration, his girlfriend was brought to an office for further questioning. He also claimed that he did not know what was happening and sought clarification from the officer-in-charge but was ignored. According to your story, he waited for two hours when he finally sought the assistance of an Airport Police who then advised him to leave the Airport.
There are several inaccuracies and inconsistencies in Mr Chua's account of the incident and what our records show. On the day of the incident when Mr Edmund Chua Teck Kiang noticed that his girlfriend, Ms Nguyen Tu Phuong, was referred to the Duty Officer for further interview, he had approached our Assistant Duty Officer who then explained to him that his girlfriend was not eligible for entry as she did not meet the immigration requirements. However, Mr Chua refused to accept the explanation and started creating a scene. As he was disrupting ICA operations, the Airport Police was called in to escort Mr Chua out of the restricted area. Contrary to Mr Chua's claim that Ms Nguyen came to attend his father's birthday celebration, his girlfriend was unable to properly account for her purpose of visit nor provide pertinent information of her boyfriend in Singapore during the interview.
As for the personal information that Mr Chua provided to your paper, our records show that he is not entirely truthful. However, due to reason of confidentiality, we are unable to reveal details here. We would like to invite Mr Chua to contact our Senior Customer Relations Executive, DSP Wee Yew Boon, at 6391 6340 or 6391 6186 if he wishes to follow up on this matter.

本报10月17日刊登的“越南女特地飞来祝寿 机场遭扣留”，移 民与关卡局来函指出，新加坡欢迎所有的访客，只要他们符合入境的 要求，包括：持有有效期至少6个月的护照、入境签证（如需要）、回 国机票、逗留期间足够的款项和入境条件。
移民与关卡局说，是否给予访客到访准证，由移民与关卡局人员 决定。外国人如果无法符合入境要求，将可能无法入境我国。
针对蔡先生的说法，移民与关卡局澄清，蔡先生指他和女友在10 月13日下午5时抵达我国，自己过关后女友被带到办公室被进一步问 话。他也声称，自己不知道发生什么事，也无法从负责人员口中得到 答案，因此在等了两小时后，寻求机场警员的协助，并在对方的建议 下离开。
移民与关卡局指出，蔡先生的说法和他们的记录有出入。
根据该局的记录，事发当天，蔡先生发现女友需要与值勤人员进 行进一步的面谈时，就曾上前询问助理值勤人员，对方向蔡先生解释 ，他的女友不符合入境要求，无法进入我国。
不过，蔡先生却拒绝接受解释，并开始大闹。
由于他扰乱了移民与关卡局的运作，机场警员因此到场将蔡先生 护送出限制区。
另外，蔡先生声称，女友是来为父亲祝寿，但是，他的女友在与 当局人员面谈时，却无法说出自己来访的目的，或提供其男友的相关 资料。 至于蔡先生提供给本报的个人资料，该局的记录显示，他并不完 全诚实。不过，基于隐私理由，当局无法透露详情。
移民与关卡局表示，若蔡先生希望跟进此事，可拨63916340或 63916186联系该局的高级客户关系执行员DSP Wee Yew Boon。

男子带越南小女友返狮城,为老父庆祝80岁大寿,但女友却在机场关卡被扣留,隔天遣送回国。
43岁的技术人员蔡先生在本星期二(13日),带着交往了1年多的23岁越南女友,从胡志明市乘搭廉价航空回返狮城。
由于父亲即将过80岁大寿,他想带女友出席父亲的寿宴,介绍给家人认识,不料,女友却在机场出状况。
蔡先生声称,当天下午5时左右,两人下飞机后,出示护照过关,结果他顺利过关,女友却没有尾随,而是被带到一间办公室问话。
“我想知道发生了什么事,就问在场的关卡人员,但他们却无法给我答复。”
等了两小时后,蔡先生要求见负责人,但负责人却不理他,让他不知如何是好。
最后,他只好向机场的警员求助,但对方表示爱莫能助,建议他将女友的行李放下先离开,别再继续等下去。
蔡先生也被告知,女友无法进入新加坡,并将在隔天(14日)早上被遣送回越南。
“由于女友有衣物在我家,所以,她当天只带了一个手提包过来,身上没什么钱,我只好马上拨电给她在越南的亲戚,叫他们去机场接她。”
蔡先生声称,女友并不是第一次来新,他们交往后,女友曾经来新探望他,都没问题。
他表示,女友在越南是销售员,这次来只是待两周,就必须回越南工作。
据他了解,和女友一同被驱逐出境的,还有10多名来自越南、菲律宾等地的男女。
