Response to “Allow walking from checkpoint to Marsiling” (My Paper, 24 Nov 2009)
Link bridge leads to Woodlands Centre
My Paper

I REFER to Mr Nelson Quah’s letter, “Allow walking from checkpoint to Marsiling” (my paper, Nov 25).
Other than passengers who commute by buses, travellers using the Woodlands Checkpoint by other vehicular modes are not allowed to walk from the checkpoint towards Woodlands Centre due to security and safety reasons.
For travellers who arrived in Singapore by bus, they can either continue to take a bus to leave the checkpoint, or walk to the nearby Woodlands Centre using the existing link bridge, after immigration clearance, outside the Arrival Bus Immigration Hall.
Mr Quah may wish to note that there are already signs and a map displayed prominently outside the Arrival Bus Hall to direct travellers to Woodlands Centre.

Allow walking from checkpoint to Marsiling
My Paper
24 Nov 2009
RECENTLY, after I went through Woodlands Checkpoint, I wanted to walk to the nearby Marsiling estate.
However, there were no signs showing me the way. My friend had been told by a policeman that walking to the nearby Woodlands Centre, which is close to Marsiling estate, is prohibited.
The only alternative, if you do not have a vehicle, is to take a public bus to Kranji MRT station.
It does not make sense to travel from Kranji to Marsiling as Marsiling is within walking distance from Woodlands Checkpoint.
Is there a walking route to Woodlands Centre and Marsiling for travelers who have cleared immigration?
