An Inconspicuous Flight Thwarted

On 3 December 2009 at about 10.30pm, a Singapore-registered car driven by a male Singaporean arrived at Woodlands Checkpoint. Accompanied by a female Malaysian passenger, the vehicle was directed for routine inspection at the Arrival Car Concourse. During the course of checks, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer noticed that the floor mats of the car were abnormally high and flapping sounds were heard coming from under the seats and the floor mats. Sensing something amiss, the ICA officers proceeded to lift the floor mats and uncovered live birds, packed in plastic containers, hidden beneath the floor mats. Further checks detected more small paper boxes and folded newspaper boxes, punctured with holes all over.
