Opening Of Co-Located Singapore And Malaysia CIQ Facility At Woodlands Train Checkpoint
On 14 July 2011, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Teo Chee Hean, officially opened the co-located Singapore and Malaysia Customs, Immigration & Quarantine (CIQ) facility at the Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
2 Accompanying DPM Teo were Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Transport and 2nd Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Lui Tuck Yew. Malaysia was represented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Minister of Transport, Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha and, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Dato’ Lee Chee Leong.
3 The Singapore and Malaysia CIQ facility has been co-located at the Woodlands Train Checkpoint since 1 July 2011 following the closure of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station. Speaking at the event, DPM Teo said that the opening of the co-located CIQ marked the resolution of the 1990 Points of Agreement between Malaysia and Singapore, symbolized the close people-to-people links between Singapore and Malaysia, and opened up new possibilities for bilateral cooperation between both countries. He also commended officials from both Singapore and Malaysia for the hard work and close co-operation in carrying out the smooth relocation of KTMB’s train operations from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands Train Checkpoint on schedule.
