'White card' still relevant, says ICA
THE Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) constantly reviews checkpoint work procedures and processes to ensure their relevance, as well as to enhance the experience of travellers without compromising border security ('ICA should scrap 'white card' requirement' by Mr Elgar Lee; May 25).
The disembarkation/embarkation card is still relevant to Singapore as the declared information serves as a deterrence against visitors with adverse records entering Singapore. It is also a source of visitors' information and statistics currently compiled by Singapore government agencies for security and research purposes.

ICA should scrap 'white card' requirement
LIKE Malaysia ('KL to scrap arrival cards for foreigners'; last Saturday), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) should consider ending the need for disembarkation cards to Singapore.
The ICA's system, like Malaysia's, stores visitors' data electronically, so filling in the 'white card' appears to be redundant.
Apart from being more visitor-friendly, the move will also cut costs and reduce our carbon footprint.
