Drugs hidden under-where?

To most of us, undergarments serve a functional role and are an essential part of any wardrobe. However, unscrupulous smugglers have thought of more devious uses for these intimate articles of clothing.

2          On 3 April 2013 at about 6.00 am, a 39-year-old female Malaysian motorcyclist traveling alone was stopped for checks on arrival at Woodlands Checkpoint. During the course of checks, the female Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers noticed that the Malaysian lady was wearing two layers of undergarment. Upon closer examination, ICA officers found three bundles, each wrapped with black tapes, on her.

3          The bundles were found to contain about 950g of heroin, 34g of ‘Ice’ and 500 Erimin-5 tablets. The estimated worth of the haul is more than S$109,000. Together with the seized exhibits, she was handed over to CNB for further investigations.  She is being investigated for drug importation and if convicted, may face the death penalty.

4          Our borders are our first line of defense in safeguarding Singapore's security.  The enhanced security checks are critical to our nation’s security.  We have tightened our security checks on passengers and vehicles at the checkpoints to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands. The same methods of concealment used by contraband smugglers may be used by terrorists to smuggle arms and explosives to carry out attacks in Singapore.
