Public Advisory on Phone Scam Calls from ICA
Over the past week, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has been contacted by members of the public who had received suspicious phone calls from a caller who claimed to be an ICA officer. In these cases, the victims would receive phone calls from a phone number that is similar to the ICA hotline (6391 6100), telling them that they had not filled in their Disembarkation/Embarkation cards properly. They were then asked to transfer funds to the caller in order to regularise their stay in Singapore.
ICA would like to clarify that such calls are not authentic. ICA does not call up members of public for funds transfer pertaining to immigration facilities. Police have since been informed. Members of public who believe that they have received such phone scam calls should do the following:
• Ignore such calls;
• Do not transfer any money via remittance agencies, banks or any other means to the caller;
• Call the Police immediately at ‘999’ to report the case.
ICA takes a serious view of such scam calls as it undermines public trust in ICA.
