Trusted Traveller Programme To Facilitate Immigration Clearance For Citizens Of Singapore And The United States Of America
On 1 Dec 2014, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the United States of America (U.S.) signed a Joint Statement to explore the development of a Trusted Traveller Programme (TTP) to facilitate immigration clearance for citizens of both countries. Currently, eligible holders of Malaysia and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport already enjoy similar facilities in Singapore, while eligible holders of Singapore passport may also apply to the immigration authorities in Malaysia and HKSAR to enjoy their automated immigration clearance facilities.
2. The TTP is a bilateral initiative which allows citizens of both countries to enjoy convenient immigration clearance via automated clearance kiosks at their major traveller entry points. Interested citizens from both countries may apply for the programme on a voluntary basis. Those who are assessed to have met the programme requirements will be notified to complete the formalities with the host country. Upon successful enrolment, they may use the self-service immigration clearance facilities available at the host country for more convenient clearance. Both border agencies will work out the operational details and they will be shared at a later date.
3. Commissioner ICA, Mr Clarence Yeo said, “The TTP underscores the strategic partnership between the U.S. and Singapore, as well as the common interest we share in providing convenience and facilitating travel for citizens between both countries while keeping our borders safe and secure.”
4. "The TTP provides expedited travel for pre-approved, low risk travellers," said U.S. Customs and Border Protection R. Gil Kerlikowske. "The U.S. is pleased to see the partnership and cooperation between the U.S. and Singapore demonstrated with this agreement."
