Male Malaysian Arrested And Charged For Failing To Stop For Immigration Clearance At Woodlands Checkpoint

            On 7 April 2015 at 3.40am, a Malaysia-registered motorcycle driven by a male Malaysian arrived at the Woodlands Checkpoint. The motorcyclist tailgated the motorcycle in front of him and did not stop for immigration clearance.

 

2.         The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer immediately activated the alarm and the checkpoint was locked down instantaneously.  ICA officers at the checkpoint responded to the alarm and the motorcyclist was placed under arrest immediately. Checkpoint operations resumed shortly at 3.50am.

 

3.         The 33-year-old motorcyclist was not in possession of a travel document. He has been charged in Court today for failure to present a passport for clearance under Sec 5A(1)(b); and failure to stop his vehicle upon point of entry under Sec 18B(1) of the Immigration Act. 

 

4.         Any person who attempts to evade immigration clearance will be dealt with firmly according to the law. If convicted under Sec 5A(1)(b), the offender is liable to a fine not exceeding S$1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both. If convicted under Sec 18B(1), the offender is liable to a fine not exceeding S$2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
