Press Statement on the Stepped-Up Checks to Prevent the "Export" of SARS
Precautionary measures have been put in place to isolate and contain the SARS problem at our borders. Temperature checks with the use of the thermal imager have been in place for incoming and outgoing passengers at Changi Airport and the land checkpoints.
2 These steps are taken so that SARS is not inadvertently "exported" to other countries. Outgoing passengers are screened at Changi Airport, Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints.
3 Since the deployment of thermal imager at the land checkpoints on 23 April till 0800 hours on 25 Apr 2003, a total of 211 travellers (118 were detected at Arrival and 93 at Departure) were referred for further screening by the nurses. 8 of these travellers were referred to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (3 detected at Arrival and 5 at Departure). One traveller was admitted while the rest were discharged.
4 ICA will continue to tighten checks at the checkpoints to contain SARS in Singapore. Travellers who show signs of SARS symptoms will be treated before they are allowed to travel overseas. We seek travellers' understanding and cooperation to seek medical attention and not travel overseas if they are feeling unwell.
