Response To Media Queries On Extension Of Social Visit Pass For Chinese Nationals In Singapore

The recent policy on disallowing all new visitors, regardless of nationality, with recent travel history to mainland China within the last 14 days, entry into Singapore or transit through Singapore, does not apply to Chinese nationals who are already in Singapore.  ICA will extend their Social Visit Pass (SVP) based on prevailing guidelines.  If approved, their SVP will be extended by 30 days.  They may apply for a further extension after that, and we will consider their application based on the guidelines and the prevailing circumstances. We are agreeable to extend their stay because, for example, a Chinese visitor who had been granted entry into Singapore earlier, and was granted 30 days’ stay, when they apply for an extension, would have been in Singapore for more than 14 days, and there is therefore less risk that they would be carrying the 2019-nCoV, as compared to others who may still be in China.

2 .         The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has already extended more than 50 applications for SVP extensions of PRC passport holders today (1 Feb), since the announcement of the suspension of new visas on 31 Jan 2020.
