A birth extract replaces a lost or damaged birth certificate.

You may apply for a digital birth extract if the birth certificate holder was born in Singapore.

From 27 March 2023, all birth extracts issued will be in digital form. Upon approval, the applicant will receive a digital birth extract. 

ICA Registry of Births and Deaths only maintains records of births that occurred in Singapore, which were registered in Singapore since 1872.

Apply Online Information Required and Procedure

You can apply for a birth extract online using the e-Service.

Only the following persons are eligible to apply for a birth extract:

  • The birth certificate holder (aged 21 years and above)
  • Parent of the birth certificate holder
  • Legal guardian of the birth certificate holder
  • Solicitor acting on behalf of any of the above listed eligible person(s)

To apply for a birth extract, you will need to provide the following information relating to the holder of the birth certificate:

  • Name (as stated on the birth certificate)
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • Singapore Birth Certificate or NRIC number

If you are unable to provide all required information (listed above), you will need to apply for a search of the birth record, with the following information:

  • Name of birth certificate holder
  • Sex of birth certificate holder
  • Date of birth or an approximate period during which the birth had occurred
  • Name of birth certificate holder’s mother
  • Residential address of birth certificate holder’s mother at time of child's birth (if available)

A search will be performed on the birth records that fall within the period specified in your application.

Records of birth which occurred overseas will not be available. For such records, please approach the relevant foreign authorities in the country/place where the birth occurred.

Fees

The fee for an application of a birth extract is S$40.

The fee for an application of a search of birth record will be computed based on the search period:

Period of Search Application Fee
Search of records in a register for any period on or after 1 Jan 1986 $40 for the search period
Search of records in a register for any period before 1 Jan 1986 $50 for every month or part of the month in the search period

All application fees (stated above) are non-refundable.

For the online application, you can pay via:

  • Visa or MasterCard (Credit, Debit)
  • American Express (AMEX)
  • Internet direct debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and SCB internet banking accounts in Singapore
  • PayNow (for Singpass users)

Processing Time and Download of Birth Extract

The general processing time for a birth extract application is within six working days.

From 27 March 2023, all birth extracts issued will be in digital form.

Upon approval, you will receive an email notification to download the digital birth extract at https://eservices.ica.gov.sg/ecert/request/download/birthcertx within 30 days.

For a search application, the processing time is within three weeks. Depending on the period of search, some applications may take longer to process.

If the search is successful, you will receive an email notification to make payment for the application of the birth extract at the e-Service.

Note: ICA no longer issues physical birth extracts from 27 March 2023. Successful applicants are advised to save the digital birth extract in their personal device for future retrieval.
