The number of immigration offenders (IOs) arrested continues to decline since 2001. In comparison with 2011, the number of IOs arrested has dropped from 3,110 to 2,580. This is due to the deterrent effect of the tightened measures such as thorough examinations and tightened security at the checkpoints to sieve out IOs.
